Presently, in the Greater San Diego area is the Navy's principal location for West Coast and Pacific Ocean operations as there are 16 naval and military installations of the United States Navy, U. S. Marines and the U. S. Coast Guard to also include Naval Base San Diego, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and Naval Air Station, North Island and home to the USS Midway Museum.

San DIego County tourism plays a large part in the economics as tourist are drawn to this region for its warm climate, well rounded experience and everything from shopping to surfing. Some of the attractions are Sea World San Diego, Legoland California, Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo, San Diego-La Jolla Underwater Park, San Diego Safari Park, Birch Aquarium at Scripps, Old Town San Diego, San Diego Museum of Man, San Diego Air and Space Museum, Historical places and a multitude of beaches, malls, museums, golf courses, musical and theatrical scenes.
